Season Syncing
Each Moment of the Year Has Its Own Beauty
Ralph Waldo Emerson
As we enter into autumn, I wanted to talk about the way our mind and body successfully adapts to a new season – an idea called Season Syncing. So let’s rewind to the beginning. Back in the good ole days, our society would base their lives around Mother Nature’s natural rhythm; the way we ate, lived, and woke up was not based on a nagging alarm clock or eating packaged food we grabbed at our local grocery store. As you can imagine, we definitely weren’t meant to thrive on weird sleep hours and fast food. We are intrinsically connected to the Earth and understanding season syncing helps us become the most intune to our sleeping, eating, and daily living habits. The idea is to synchronize the seasons with our lives. So let’s start with sleep.
Our Circadian Rhythm
According to Science Daily, the circadian rhythm is a 24-hour cycle in the physiological processes of living beings, including plants, animals, fungi and cyanobacteria. Our internal clock wants us to naturally sleep and wake up with the sun, and this changes based on the time of year.
Seasonal Eating
Did you know that our bodies digest different foods more efficiently based on the time of year? For example, your body doesn’t respond the same way to tropical fruits in the wintertime compared to the way it would in the summertime due to a decrease in enzyme production. Eating in-season food from your local markets is a great way to reap all the benefits of eating with the seasons.
